Gangai Konda Cholapuram – Day Trip

So had a wedding to attend in Kumbakonam with my family, my son has started getting fascinated by temples and old Tamil writings on the walls of these temples after a visit to Tanjore Periya Kovil.

Since Gangai Konda Cholapuram temple was on the list we decided that we will do a day trip before reaching Kumbakonam. We started in the morning at around 9AM and took the route google suggested there were a lot of villages and highways (toll roads) under construction on the way and we finally reached Gangai Konda Cholapuram at around 1PM.

There is nothing else to see there except for the temple and it is one of the most beautiful temples I have seen in my life. the architecture is so wonderful it will leave you awestruck. There is still the usual crowd outside the temple (beggers, donation collectors, shops) they are not allowed inside. We went there when the main temple is closed (from 1PM to 4PM) so we were not able to look inside. We were just happy to be able to look at the wonders of this place.

We were there till 4PM and started our journey to Kumbakonam as planned.
